Hocus Pocus

I am working to write something inspirational and uplifting as per my usual posting but I can’t seem to get my mind off the individual who recently paid me a visit. So, I ask that you indulge me as I work through this conundrum.

Not so long ago, sitting across from me was someone who referred to psychic mediumship, energy healing, and the spiritual arts in general as hocus pocus. Hocus pocus! Those were the exact words used.

Now I always believe everyone has the right to their own opinion, so the following dialogue is not so much directed at this individual as it is my reaction and mental processing to what I had just been asked. What his specific opinion happened to be regarding my life’s work is really of no significants to me. What matters is my own opinion regarding my own experiences and belief systems.

Do I believe I spend my days doing Hocus Pocus? To me, Hocus Pocus has always meant trickery or deceit. Basically someone trying to fool someone else by any means possible including magic or slight of hand.

The answer of course is no. If that is the definition, I certainly reject that perspective. Not only do I reject it, but I decided to reject the entire definition and its associated meaning. Today I choose to take the wikipedia version that I found. From this day forward, and certainly in my world, Hocus Pocus shall be defined as “a generic term that may be derived from an ancient language and used when bringing about some sort of change.” Ah, yes. That feels much better. If the word Hocus Pocus needs to be used in reference to my work or the spiritual arts in general, then the definition shall be “bringing about change”. Actually that is exactly how I describe my work. I consider myself to be a facilitator of change.

At one point, not so very long ago, I used to spend a lot of time worrying about what people would think of the work I do; and because of that, it took me a long time before I ever spoke up about my encounters with the spirit world and healing energy. However, what I experience is very, very real. Every day I am given the opportunity to work with the other side to bring messages, hope and healing to those in need. And every day I witness miracles, profound insights, and enlightening moments with spirit.

Truly, amongst all the miracles I have been involved in and witnessed the most empowering aspect has been the way society is beginning to embrace the spiritual realms. The seeds may have been planted many eons ago, but watching the conscious minds of society fully open and become more connected to spirit is quite divine. Call it Hocus Pocus, call it mystical or call it change but one thing is for sure – we are living in the most magical times of human and spiritual evolution; and if you have yet to receive the memo, it is truly time to fully embrace this amazing, life-altering, magical world of Hocus Pocus 😉
